"Where do you see yourself in 5 years?"he asks an inevitable question.
I am in the cubicle of a company on a Sunday for my 5th interview. The air in the office feels heavy.I am uncomfortable, like everytime, but its not because i am in the middle of an interview. Its the 'corporate' aura that i hate.It depresses me.
I wonder what the man sitting in front me expects me to say,he's probably asked this to hundreds of people.
"Five years from now I see myself in the same cubicle i am today, gulping innumerable cups of coffee, while i am scrolling through happy images of Sherry Shroff and Vahishta Mistry on Instagram living their life, thinking how i had dreamed of saving money by working in an I.T firm so i could live life like a dream, but i couldn't because in 5 years all i got was a 10k increment in my salary which apparently i will have to spend on the hair loss, vision problems, obesity and spinal problems i get from working a 13hr job",my tone is vehement.
His face breaks into an austere grin.
"Welcome to I.T",he says.

The concept of Indian marriages!

This winter got me into a few marriages, couldn't really attend all of those but the talk of these marriages haven't sufficed even after days. The main show-stopper seems to be the food(obviously! I only eat as much as i breathe) and the 'gifts' that were exchanged. There's this Indian tradition we all know about..where the bride's family showers gifts on the groom. I dint hear anything about gifts given to the bride so 'exchanged' would definitely be a wrong word.
Giving dowry is punishable by law according to The Dowry Prohibition Act,1961. so the simplest thing it seemed to do was change what it was called and term it "gifts in blessings".I have heard of weddings where the bride's family gifts everything from a king-sized bed to even spoons to the groom! You could put four walls around and there..a well equipped house! But that's not the painful thing, what slaps you in the face is the bride or her family saying,"Humko karna hi padta hain" or "Aise hi hota hain". Fools!Someone before you agreed to do it,you are following them and someone else will too. If you wanted to change it,you should, rather than playing along. I don't understand how the grooms family shamelessly demands and accepts all those gifts too, Is your lad in such a state that he cannot buy those himself? Then where do you get the courage to get him married. What it looks to me is a girls parents gifting as much as they can so she slaves for someone else for the rest of her life. Painful, that she was such a burden to them.
Every time the groom and his party visit, they are fed enough to turn into 'Hodor' or 'Hagrid' instantly. Also what irritates is the bride being told to address her man as "Aap". If i'd be told this,i would sink in a state of terror wondering if hes as old as my father(That happens in India too!) or maybe I'd keep questioning as to what has he done to deserve that one-sided respect. India's marriage concept never really agrees with me. I remember telling my friend."Yaar how do they do it? Deciding who you are going to spend the rest of your life with (or saat janam,if you are too dramatic),in a single day or that kind of time. Any donkey would pretend to be a gentleman because that's what everyone would want.! Still need to figure that out. All i know is..my parents are going to have a hard time getting me out of their door.

Define Patriarchy...India

I decided to write about this the day my first post happened, i couldn't just find the time to type it down. I will do this now before i forget what i was thinking about, since I happen to show symptoms of Alzheimer's these days(fortunately for some things i wish to forget).
Recently the BBC documentary made on Jyoti Singh (famously named 'Nirbhaya') was aired on YouTube. I literally forced my family and a few friends into watching it. For those who still haven't, I have downloaded it(Smart,i know :P ). They banned parts of it the same day as reason not to deface the country, i don't exactly get it, People from the country know the bitter truth, Its still being aired all over the world except India. I thought it would be the world they are hiding from! If they haven't understood it yet, i'l quote it for them, "Indian mentality..you are still being abused by all the goras. And the Africans too maybe (sorry for being racist)
What keeps ringing even after the whole justice show is over is a word someone mentioned in the video..Patriarchy. It basically means India to me. And a lot more women,i think. What an Indian girl does and will do since her birth(if shes not killed in the womb) to the time she enters her grave is decided and manipulated by a male. Its a tale everyone keeps talking about when the topic is hot and eventually everyone forgets. They say illiteracy marks the greatest cause for all such wrong doings, then i hope my generation and the ones coming change the face of India, being largely the literate and independent population. But we cant expect a clean slate though.
